CONCRIBA

The achievement of CONCRIBA challenges has relevant importance that affects both environmental issues, sustainability and circular
economy. The use of alkali-activated binders (AABs) replacing PC is an important approach to reduce the environmental footprint of the
construction sector. In the framework of circular economy, which promotes the production of more sustainable and less polluting materials,
the use of AABs formulated with waste is also a technological improvement.

The innovation of the project will make it possible to maintain all the benefits of concrete as the main urban development material and to
drastically reduce its negative externalities. Likewise, it will contribute to the improvement of environmental and human well-being by being
applied in architectural categories with fewer structural responsibilities, such as urban furniture.

CONCRIBA project will improve the sustainability of economic sectors, favouring the inclusion of the materials produced in the tender for
the construction of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified materials which require at least 40 % of recycled
materials. In this regard, the introduction of WBA-based AABs will contribute to spread these materials with an economical advantage for
the manufacturing countries.

Regarding the international impact, CONCRIBA is fully aligned within the international sphere, especially in European countries.
In summary, the CONCRIBA project would contribute to (i) decarbonization and (ii) energy efficiency in the processes of obtaining binder
materials; to (iii) circular economy through the reuse of residual secondary resources in a proximity production cycle; to (iv) the
construction of energy and resource efficient buildings; and (v) climate change mitigation.
