Dr. Jessica Giró

Biography Summary

Dr Giro-Paloma’s research is in the development of alternative sustainable materials, utilizing various by-products and waste materials. These by-products include Waste Incineration residues, Municipal Solid Waste, Carbonation products, and the characterization of ceramic and building materials. Dr. Giro-Paloma has actively contributed to numerous research projects in technology transfer, showcasing his dedication to practical applications of scientific knowledge. In 2014, Dr Giro-Paloma went to the Department of Chemical & Materials Engineering, University of Auckland (New Zealand), as a three-month Pre-doc secondment. In November 2015, she received the prestigious Post-Doctoral grant from Fundació Agustí Pedro i Pons, awarded by the Dipartimento di Ingegneria «Enzo Ferrari».

Since 2020 Dr Giro-Paloma is Tenure Track Lecturer, teaching a diverse range of subjects, including Theoretical, Practical problems, Laboratory Practices, Special practices, and Communicative oral practices in the Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, and Physics Degrees. She is a member of the Innovation group for the Improvement of Teaching in Structure, Properties, and Processing of Materials (GIMDEPPM). Additionally, in 2019, she assumed the role of the teaching innovation project coordinator for the implementation of the reverse classroom methodology – time teaching modality (JITT) – in the subject of Materials Science for the Degree in Chemistry.Dr Giro-Paloma has supervised a total of 8 EHEA Bachelor’s degree final projects and 3 Master’s degree final projects. She also has co-supervised 1 PhD, and she is currently co-supervising another PhD student.

Finally, she has served 25 times as a committee member for the EHEA Bachelor’s degree final Project and participated as a committee member for 5 International PhDs.
